It’s Summer time, which means hot days and the least amount of clothing possible. It also means catching up with family & friends at the beach, with the least amount of clothing possible to save yourself from becoming a hot sweaty mess.
A couple of weeks ago I received a message from my best friend Lisa saying “I’m going to send a pic to you as I need you to see how incredible you look” Next message included this photo of me.
I’m the first one to admit, I have freaken amazing friends, Simply because I get to choose who I surround myself with.
That day, her and I, along with our kids and a couple of other friends hung out at Kai Iwi Lakes, in our home town where we all grew up. We are all comfortable to hang out in our bikini and lounge on the beach with each other, But I do remember thinking and making a couple of comments about myself throughout the day..about my body. And I remember every time I said something negative about myself, I felt even worse about myself.
Negative talk brings more negative feelings. Positive talk brings more positive feelings.
So when this message came through from my beautiful friend, It made me take a good look at me as a whole, to see there so so much more to me than this body of mine. You see if I was standing in this photo, You would see my wobbly tum, covered in stretch marks, You would see my love handles…which have been added to over the Christmas period, You would see the cellulite in my legs even more so.
A week after this photo was taken, I headed away with my family to Cooks Beach and I walked around most of the day in my bikini, as did my sister without a worry. Why?? Because I wanted to enjoy my Summer, I wanted to have fun with my kids in and out of the water, I wanted to just chill out relax and get a bit of colour on this white bod of mine.
It’s not perfect. Some will see there is nothing wrong with my body, Others will think, yeah a workout or 20 could do good me some good, The thing is, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, It only matters what I think and how I see myself.
Summer has really only just began. Please don’t let what you look like hold you back from enjoying the sun, your kids and family. Life is way to bloody short for nonsense like that don’t ya think.
And know, no one is even looking at you, everyone is too worried about what they look like, so show them how it’s done and own all that you are, stand tall, hold your head up and enjoy what you see out in this world rather than looking down worrying about those few perfect imperfections of yours.
Go and enjoy your Saturday on this amazing day.
