Leaning into 'what else' Searching for new is common in many, Newness brings excitement, fun, a higher energy within, it's that sense of pleasure that fills us and we crave for more of those feelings, until they fade and we move to the next new thing. It's an addiction of sorts. To often people are quick to move from one thing to the next, chasing that feeling of excitement again. But what if we leant into 'What else' with what it is you already have in front of you. 'What else' or 'how else' opens you up to more of one thing. When we lean into more of what we already have, we get to go deeper, wider, learning things we wouldn't have expected to have known had we continued to flick things to the side when the newness fades. When we lean in, it allows for experimentation to kick in, bringing newness of the same thing. As I work my way through the exhibition prints & lay them on the floor, I noticed how excited I felt as each print came through the printer. A craft that I have wanted to walk away from many times when the excitement was no longer there, yet each time I was pulled back in to experiment 'what else'...each time giving me newness, excitement, joy & satisfaction doing the same thing I have done for 20 years, but in new ways, always wondering 'what else'...'how else'... each time getting closer to the work that brings my truth & my art to the world. Had I walked away, I would have missed so many gems, opportunities & people that it's brought into my space. When the excitement dies, it's hard to stay there doing the same thing, it feels so much easier to walk away, yet it's not. All that's required is space, space to breath, space to sit with 'what else'...'how else' at front of mind, all while you continue on with the mundane things of life at times, trusting that if there is more to experiment with, new ideas will start to unfold which if actioned, ignites the flame again. So what area in your life has lost its spark? Before you turn your back on it, sit for a bit with 'What else' and allow your mind to open up to experimenting new ways to be or do things. Take the same old, same old and switch things up to what it is deep down you wish to see, to bring newness back in again.
