Why do I photograph women - well mostly women?
As a former wedding photographer, I saw the bride looking and more importantly, feeling beautiful. She was wearing her dream dress and she was celebrating one of the most important relationships in her life.
Every bride I photographed, held herself beautifully, her head held high and a beautiful confidence graced her. It’s one day that women (and men, of course) really celebrate herself and her loved one along with her family. It’s like she has been given the permission to shine, to look and feel beautiful, to celebrate - because it’s her wedding day.
Why do we feel we can only really celebrate one’s life on occasions such as a wedding, a birthday (although some class it as just another day) or at their funeral. Not a lot of celebrating in a lifetime really is it...
When in fact, I think, it would be awesome to see more celebrating themselves whenever they wish to, without it being a special occasion.
So when I decided to photograph women (photographing the bride was one of my favourite parts of a wedding) I guess I wanted to change that. I wanted to give women the chance to celebrate any time, with portraits as a gift to themselves.
To show them that they didn’t need an excuse to celebrate, And for them to see and appreciate who they are right now and to embrace the changes that are forever changing.
So yes, I mainly photograph women, However, I love it more than anything, when she is also able to enjoy the experience with those close to her. Her Mum, her Dad, her partner, her daughter, her son, her sister, her grandmother, her whole family.
Women are usually the ones behind the camera (bar the selfie of course) So it’s time to bring her out in front, (yes I'm talking to YOU) So she can be celebrated…. So she can be remembered!
